DRINKING WATER SYSTEMS

Reverse Osmosis is an effective and economical way to provide high quality drinking water. Reverse Osmosis is the process by which water molecules are forced through a semi permeable membrane. Contaminants and dissolved mineral content are rinsed to the drain while high quality, filtered water is stored in the holding tank. A special faucet is installed on the sink. Usually the fridge and ice maker can be supplied with Reverse Osmosis water as well.

Reverse Osmosis is convenient:

  • Low maintenance
  • No heavy bottles to handle.
  • Water available any time from the faucet or fridge.

Reverse Osmosis makes good water:

  • Clean, clear, great tasting water for drinking, beverages and cooking.
  • Reduces dissolved mineral content 85 to 95%, including sodium, sulfate and fluoride.
  • Removes chlorine.
  • Removes a high percentage of most contaminants that could get into your water.

A Reverse Osmosis System can treat for a variety of contaminants including

Health Contaminants Aesthetic Contaminants
Arsenic Many Tastes, Odors, and Colors
Asbestos Aluminum
Atrazine Chlorides
Benzene* Chlorine*
Cryptosporidium Copper
Cyanide Silver
Fluoride Sodium
Giardia Sulfate
Lead Sulfide*
Mercury High Total Dissolved Solids
Nitrates
Radium
Radon*
Trichloroethylene*
Total Trihalomethanes*

*Additional treatment for these contaminants is provided through activated carbon filters included with the RO systems.

Our Reverse Osmosis systems are designed to be used on a potable water supply. They should not be used on water that is microbiologically impure. If they are installed on water sources that harbor biological contaminants the water must be continuously disinfected before or after the Reverse Osmosis system. Chlorination and Ultraviolet Light systems are possibilities. If Reverse Osmosis systems are used to reduce known health related contaminants increased monitoring is necessary.

FOUR STAGE REVERSE OSMOSIS SYSTEM

Stage 1 contains a 5 micron filter cartridge to remove particulates such as dirt, sediment, sand and other physical contaminants.

Stage 2 is a granulated activated carbon filter cartridge to remove chlorine and other chemical contaminants that may be in your water supply. A Thin Film Composite membrane requires that chorine be removed prior to the membrane.

Stage 3 is a Filmtec Thin Film Composite Reverse Osmosis Membrane that removes about 95% of dissolved mineral content and other contaminates from the water supply. The standard membrane is a 36 gallon per day membrane. 50, 75 and 100 gallon per day membranes are also available.

Stage 4 is an activated carbon block cartridge to give the water a final polish as it flows to the faucet. We use a full size post filter housing and cartridge.

The Reverse Osmosis water is stored in a pressurized storage tank. The standard tank holds from 2.5 to 3.2 gallons of water depending on operating conditions. Dual or larger storage tanks are available for high water demands.

FIVE STAGE REVERSE OSMOSIS SYSTEM

Stages 1, 2 & 3 are pre filters that can be customized to your water conditions to remove dirt, sediment, sand and other physical particles and reduce chlorine and other chemical contaminants that may be in the water supply.

Stage four is a Filmtec Thin Film Composite Reverse Osmosis Membrane that removes about 95% of dissolved mineral content and other contaminates from the water supply. The standard membrane is a 36 gallon per day membrane. 50, 75 and 100 gallon per day membranes are also available.

Stage 5 is a granular activated carbon in line filter to give the water a final polish as it flows to the faucet.

The Reverse Osmosis water is stored in a pressurized storage tank. The standard tank holds from 2.5 to 3.2 gallons of water depending on operating conditions. Dual or a larger storage tanks are available for higher water demands.

Note:Actual water production is effected by feed water temperature, pressure and by the total dissolved solids in the water. Membranes are rated for feed water at 77 degrees F, 60 psi and 600 mg/l total dissolved solids. Since all these conditions seldom exist in northeast Wyoming actual water production may be reduced by as much as 50% of rating.

BOOSTER PUMPS

Where the feed water pressure is low and/or its total dissolved solids high, a booster pump is required to provide adequate pressure to the membrane for effective operation. This is true of many rural well water supplies.

When a booster pump is desirable or necessary we use the Aquatec series 6800 pump. This pump produces up to 100 psi, and operates off a 24 volt included transformer and draws less than 25 watts. It is usually installed as part of a new Reverse Osmosis system, but, can also be retrofitted to an underperforming Reverse Osmosis system.

STANDARD FEATURES

All Reverse Osmosis systems from Western Water Conditioning include standard features often omitted by others:

3/8" tubing from storage tank to faucet.  Many others use 1/4". The larger tubing provides a better flow from the faucet.

Professional installation. Includes an air break to the drain which is required by plumbing codes and prevents possible recontamination of your drinking water.

Professional service after the sale. Your system will provide good drinking water for years to come with the ongoing maintenance we provide.

Standard size filter cartridges and membranes, which are widely available, which result in lower long term costs. We maintain a local inventory of replacement parts.

WHOLE HOUSE AND COMMERCIAL REVERSE OSMOSIS SYSTEMS

We also sell and install whole house and commercial Reverse Osmosis systems. These systems are custom designed to meet the needs of the particular application. A good water analysis is a necessary first step. Many of our systems use centrifugal pumps and 4 x 40” membranes in stainless steel housings. Contact us for more details.
